Jeunehomme

Martha Argerich and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart have a long history together. She performed his d-minor Concerto, KV 466 as a young girl, and it has remained one of her great loves. Although she hasn't performed his works on a regular basis, she has brought back a few concerti back into her repertoire in recent times (Concerto No. 25, as well as No. 20)

Something that is a new addition to her concerto repertoire is Concerto No. 9, otherwise known as 'Jeunehomme'. Argerich and her long-time friend Claudio Abbado are scheduled to join forces again for three performances of the great concerto in September (in Italy, the Netherlands and France). But as always, don't take my word for it as definitive, since her concert dates are always tentatively planned in advance, and there is a chance that she will not perform at all, or play another work.

Having said that though, let's cross our fingers, in the hope that she DOES play! What a marvel it would be hear her take on the beloved work!

A Romantic Offering in Japan

Martha Argerich is taking the double concerto - entitled "Romantic Offering" - dedicated to her and cellist Mischa Maisky on tour, starting from this month. Further performances are expected in Lugano, at her Progetto, as well as Verbier in July.

But before that, her loyal fans in Japan will get to hear the concerto first, and it will mark the first performance of the work outside of Europe. Mischa Maisky will naturally perform the cello part alongside Argerich, and the Toho Gakuen Orchestra will be conducted by Ken Takaseki.
