Concerts January 2011 (to March 1)

Happy new year! Sorry I've been a bit quiet, but there has not been much information regarding Argerich's concert activity coming in lately, but here's some information for concerts in February.

There are two last-minute additions to the calendar in January, including her first ever performances in Istanbul. This will no doubt be a highlight to Argerich's fans in Turkey!

The second month of 2011 will have Argerich premiere a new work - something she has not done very often - by the Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin. He has composed a double concerto for piano, cello and orchestra for Argerich and her loyal friend Mischa Maisky. Neeme Järvi will lead the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester in the work. They will also take the piece on tour in Turin, Baden-Baden and Paris.

At the end of February and beginning of March, Argerich teams up with Yannick Nézet-Séguin for three performances of the Prokofiev 3rd concerto with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. That should be exciting!

As many of you may know, Martha Argerich will turn 70(!) in June, and for this big milestone the Verbier Festival is planning concerts around her in July. I will post more information as soon as I get it!
